Shipping & Costs

Where do you ship?

We are offering Free Shipping in the EU, USA, Canada*, Switzerland*, Norway*, and the UK*.

*Import fees may apply, paid by the Buyer (Switzerland ~25-30 CHF, UK ~60-70 GBP, Canada ~55-70 CAD, Norway ~800-1000 NOK). Please contact your local customs for exact import duty tax rates and present the following HS code: 9403 30.

What are the cost of shipping to the UK?

We offer free shipping to the UK. You will pay only the import fee – around £70.

What shipping methods do you offer?

In the EU we deliver our chairs via DPD courier. Goods in the EU are delivered via DPD courier. In countries outside the EU, we use a FedEx courier delivery service.

Usually, the delivery time is between 3 and 7 working days after dispatch. This is a provisional term and could change according to the country. If delivery time is longer, we will inform you separately.

Are there any hidden costs?

None, if you live in the EU or USA.

If you live outside the EU or USA, you might have to pay additional shipping fees and customs taxes.

What factors influence the price of our chairs?

We spent 3 years developing the ergonomics of this chair so that it would be comfortable to sit in two interchangeable positions.
It sure looks minimal, but it mostly includes custom-built parts like a press-molded plywood frame, molded heavy-duty feet pads, injection-molded polyurethane foam seat, and complex upholstery. Not to mention the special packaging that allows us to avoid packaging fillers.
Having in mind the current global environmental degradation we feel we have a responsibility of producing only such products that will not end up among trash after a year or two. Cheap materials and production usually make short-serving products that need to be replaced frequently.
That is why we manufacture in the EU out of quality materials that make the Muista chair a long-serving piece of furniture.
Also please have in mind that the price also includes taxes, shipping costs, and our small company’s research & development costs.

Product FAQs

What materials and fabrics do you use?

Jojiko chair:

The legs are made of a 14mm thick powder-coated steel tube. Heavy-duty, cast rubber feet-pads fixed on the legs enable smooth rocking movement while protecting the floor. Moulded polyurethane foam is used for the seat cushion. For upholstery, you can choose between wool (Razzle Dazzle by Kvadrat: 60% new wool 20% polyester 20% nylon) or polyester (Atlantic by Gabriel: 100% polyester) fabrics.

Muista and Muista XL chairs:

The frames of these chairs are made of press-formed beech plywood. The chair’s feet (and floors) are protected by cast rubber feet pads, suitable for all flat hard floors. Moulded polyurethane foam is used for the seat cushion. For upholstery, you can choose between wool (Velito by Gabriel: 88% new pure wool 12% PA) or polyester (Felicity by Gabriel: 100% recycled polyester) fabrics.

What is the difference between Jojiko and Muista chairs?

The main difference between the two is their height – the Jojiko chair is 2 cm (~0.8″) lower than the Muista chair. Also, Jojiko’s legs are 6 cm wider than the Muista chair, and that makes it more stable (meaning it’s harder to fall down, even if you go berserk on your chair).
The Jojiko chair employs the same sitting principle as our signature Muista chair, but uses other materials and structure for the benefit of less material waste in the production process. Plus it is flat-packed, which lets us reduce shipping emissions and save a bit on shipping costs. Which also means – we managed to make it more affordable than the Muista chair.

Is the seat soft enough?

It is soft enough for active sitting. But not soft enough for prolonged inactivity. The Muista chair will make you move since it was designed for that. If you get tired of sitting in one position, you simply switch to another one.

Initially, it can take some 1-3 weeks to get used to the saddle sitting position on the Muista chair – it is normal since saddle sitting is very different from the regular chairs: it wakes up some muscles that were used to prolonged inactivity while sitting on flat seats. You will get used to it, and will thank the Muista later for that!

Can I use your chair on a thick carpet?

The Muista chair has protective rubber feet pads, so it will not ruin your carpet. However, it should eventually flatten the carpet area of contact, as any other chair would.

How should I care for the seat upholstery?

Wool fabric:

When first used, a certain amount of excess fiber will work its way to the surface of the fabric. This is completely normal. As the upholstery is used these excess fibers will eventually diminish. In the meantime, the fibers can be brushed off the surface with a soft clothing brush or vacuum. These excess fibers do not reflect the quality of the fabric or the long life of wool. This is a normal result of the way the wool yarn is spun.

Easy care. Wool is antistatic and does not attract dirt like other fabrics. Wool is also water repellent, so spillages are slow to penetrate the fabric. To maintain the beautiful color and appearance of the fabric, we recommend gentle vacuuming, preferably every week, with a soft nozzle.

Stain removal. A golden rule: always remove stains as quickly as possible! Most stains and dirt can be removed using an ordinary Ph neutral detergent diluted in lukewarm water at normal strength (follow the directions on the bottle).

Important:

– First, soak up as much of the liquid as possible with the white kitchen roll or tea towel.
– If the stain has dried on, remove as much of it as possible by vacuuming.
– Rub carefully with a clean, white cloth.
– Press the fabric with a dry tea towel or piece of white kitchen roll every time the water is added so as to soak up moisture and dirt.
– Use clean water without any detergent for the final clean. The area may appear darker than the surrounding fabric after being cleaned with water. This will become less noticeable over time.

For mega-nasty stains. Remove the seat and take it to dry-cleaners. Fabric composition: 88% new pure wool, 12% PA.

Polyester fabric:

Felicity fabric is made of recycled polyester, suited for environments with special requirements for cleaning.

Spot removal: A golden rule: always remove the spot as quickly as possible – before it penetrates the fibers. Most types of spots can be removed with lukewarm water, possibly with a pH-neutral dishwashing detergent.

Proceed as follows. First, absorb as much of the liquid as possible with plain white kitchen paper toweling or a cloth. If the spot has dried, remove as much as possible by vacuuming. Rub gently with a clean white cloth. Press a dry tea towel or piece of plain white kitchen roll against the fabric each time liquid is added so that moisture and impurities are absorbed. Use pure water without soap for the last washing.

Avoid soaking as this can damage the material under the fabric. Never rub hard to remove a spot. Always use a clean white cotton cloth with only small amounts of detergent at a time. Benzene/acetone and similar can dissolve foam on soaking. Be careful with naked flames.

For mega-nasty stains – remove the seat and take it to dry-cleaners. Fabric composition: 100% post-consumer recycled polyester.

Is the chair safe?

Being a balancing chair, the Muista is made to be unstable. To minimize the risk of falls, always try to sit close to the centre of the seat and never sit on the edge, especially in the saddle position.

Within reasonable deviation, Muista chairs are suitable for sitters of all ages, just with the caution and awareness of the possibilities of you+Muista+movement gone wild=painful impact with the floor. Really, please, do not go berserk on your Muista – we will not be responsible for any possible injuries.

Do you offer a warranty?

We offer a 3-years warranty on all our products.

The warranty covers major manufacturing defects or structural failures that prevent the chair from safe and comfortable use.

The warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, normal wear and tear, or defects caused by exposure to direct sunlight.

Minor aesthetic aefects: at Muista we believe that production should be treated responsibly, and discarded materials kept to a minimum. This means that we do not discard minor aesthetic damages left from the production processes or natural wood structure and colour irregularities.
